Conan's Case Proves The Pivotal Role Social Media Plays

by Andrew Ran Wong on January 25, 2010

conan o'brien Conan’s last show on NBC was aired on Friday, Jan. 22nd. According to Wall Street Journal, his last show scored big ratings and was the No. 1 for the entire evening among all late-night and prime-time programs according to early numbers from NBC.

Conan’s case has proven the pivotal role that social media plays in our society.  The world is changing because of social media.  Now information can be spread in real time to millions of people.  The responses on the Internet to Conan’s departure from NBC have been “pouring,” quoting his own word.  Here is a clip from Conan’s last show where he thanked NBC, his former employer, and also showed enormous appreciation to his fans.

Interestingly, I saw a post today on Mashable that was titled “What the Web of Tomorrow Will Look Like: 4 Big Trends to Watch.” The post used Conan’s picture as its cover image.  It points out specifically that social media will be the largest component on the web in the future.  Read it here.
