What Are You Thankful For In Social Media

Today is Thanksgiving Day. We all have our family members and special friends to give our “Thanks” to. What are you thankful for in social media? Over the past several years, what we have seen is the rapid evolvement and uprising force of social media. When Michael Jackson was dead, I didn’t first hear about the news from CNN or any other major news networks. I heard about it on Twitter first, because it became a trending topic. So here we go.  Here are the 20 things I am thankful for in social media.

1. It massively eases the communication among us without geographical restrictions

2. It allows news to deliver much faster than if mainstream media

3. It offers a new way to learn. Now instead of going to the library, I just read blog posts

4. It makes it easier to build a community or “tribe,” according to Seth Godin

5. It encourages “sharing,” which is a fundamental key element for building any communities

6. It eliminates the need of having an advertising agency, which is cumbersome to begin with. Now anyone can be the “channel

7. It enables marketers to conduct very cost-effective marketing campaigns

8. It provides business opportunities for anyone who wants to start a blog or podcast

9. It supports the voting system (Digg), which allows things to go viral in a snap

10. It offers new ways to bookmark articles and sort them through via tags (Delicious)

11. It encourages innovation and creativity, which is the key to advancing the human society

12.  it offers new ways for businesses to build relationships with their customers

13. It promotes the concept of “being free” (Facebook and Twitter)

14. It gives authors more topics to write about (Twitter Power by Joel Comm)

15. It encourages new tech startups, thereby making the marketplace more competitive

16. It allows us to help people and connect with new folks daily, despite our differences

17. It creates new ways for people to monetize their content (Wordpresss)

18. It makes it earlier for us to share our photos (Flickr) and videos (YouTube)

19. It creates new ways for people to entertain themselves and remain social

20. It gives me the opportunity to write a blog post about “20 things to be thankful for in social media
