Twitter is the latest greatest invention after Facebook in the social media world?  It’s an excellent vehicle for you to expand your influence if you know how to use it effectively.  Personally, I have benefited handsomely to grow my entrepreneur group and increase traffic on my blog all via using Twitter.  It’s a lot of fun tweeting most of my thoughts and ideas everyday on Twitter.  As a pro Twitterer, here I would like to share with you 30 critical tools that I use to grow and manage my Twitter followers.

Category A – Unfollow Inactive Twitter Users (Twitter Tools #1-3)

It’s inevitable that we encounter people who don’t tweet often (Some even never tweeted at all).  I believe there is no need to follow inactive Twitter users if they are not going to pay attention to what you say.  One important metric to measure how popular you are on Twitter is by the amount of re-tweets that you get.  With inactive users, chances are very, very slim that they will re-tweet your message.  What to do with them? Push this button: DELETE.

TOOLS I RECOMMEND

1. Untweeps

Untweeps is a tool that I use to mass unfollow inactive users.  Basically, you go to their website, sign in with your Twitter account, and then choose a time period.  For example, you can ask the system to find users that you are following who haven’t tweeted in the last 30 days.  Then the system will do the work and find all those lazy Twitterers for you.  Your job is  simply to push the “Delete” button to complete this process (Note: you can only delete 100 users at a time).  In addition, there is a premium Untweeps account you can purchase to gain unlimited access to their system.  No matter which one you choose, give it a try.  You will find it’s easy and fun.

Category B – Monitor Your Popularity on Twitter (Twitter Tools #4-8)

As you grow your followers on Twitter, it is important to measure how popular you are in your community.  Say, if you have 100,000 followers, but no one is paying attention to what you are tweeting, then it doesn’t show your authority in the Twitterverse. Fortunately, we have tools to help you measure your popularity on Twitter.

TOOLS I RECOMMEND

1. Retweet Rank

My Retweet Rank

Retweetrank lets you find out how popular your Tweets are.  This site grades your re-tweets based on how often your tweets get re-tweeted.  It’s a great tool to help you find out what sorts of tweets are most welcome in your Twitter community.

2. TweetValue

Check How Much Your Twitter Profile is Worth

TweetValue calculates how much your Twitter profile is worth.  The site claims to estimate your worth according to their “super-secret Ph.D algorithm.”  In other words, the formula takes into account the number of followers you have, how often they re-tweet your stories, and how frequently you tweet.  It appears to be very interesting.  Now you can head over to TweetValue and see how much your profile is worth … LOL

Category C – Schedule Tweets in Advance (Twitter Tools #9-13)

It is impossible for us to be awake 24/7.  However, we do want our tweets to dominate the Twitterverse for as long as possible.  To make this happen, we must find a tool which enables us to schedule tweets in advance and tweet for us automatically.  For example, if I knew I have errands to run today and no time to spend in front of my computer tweeting, I would use the auto-tweet mechanism which should keep my tweets going non-stop in my absence.  This way, even though I don’t have time tweeting myself, the system does the job for me.  What I need to do is simply pre-fill all the tweets in advance.

TOOLS I RECOMMEND

1. TweetLater

Category D – Keep Tracking Your Twitter Stats (Twitter Tools #14-18)

There are many tools to monitor your Twitter stats, such as the hours you spend, Tweets you’ve sent, etc.  If you are a serious Twitter user, you should consider implementing these available tracking tools.  With the right tool being implemented, not only can you see a snapshot of your tweeting activities in a specific period of time, these tools also help you evaluate how effective your tweeting strategies are so you can correct the course if need be.

2. Tweetstats

TweetStats graphs your Twitter Stats including tweets per hour, tweets per month, tweet timeline, and reply statistics.  Very useful tool indeed!

3. Tweetwasters

Tweetwasters calculates the amount of time you spend on Twitter, in a slightly different way.  For example, my Tweetwasters report says (as of August 18, 2009) –

Andrew Wong has 1,344 total tweets and assuming they spent an average of 30 seconds per tweet they’ve spent 40,320 Seconds or 672 Minutes or 11.2 Hours or 0.47 Days using Twitter!
