I came across a very good video today. It’s Randy Pausch’s lecture on time management. I thought it might be a good idea to relate this to what I’ve been doing recently with social media to improve efficiency. As we all know that we can use Web 2.0 tools to drastically boost our daily productivity, it’s also a well known fact that overdoing it can be a huge time waster. For instance, numerous studies and researches have been done to find out how many hours a typical person spends on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. It’s not uncommon that it takes you an entire weekend just to catch up with your friends on Facebook, check LinkedIn messages, or upload and tag photos on Flickr. […]
Scott Heiferman
Meetup is the world’s largest network of local groups. Scott Heiferman is CEO and a co-founder of Meetup. His idea is to use the internet to organize local community groups with local offline meetings. Tim O’Reilly, in a Forbes.com post, points to Meetups when he’s citing examples of ways people are using “creativity and collaboration to address challenges facing our country and the world.” We’ve written a slew of articles about Meetup before, check them out.
On February 17th, I conducted an interview with Scott Herferman in front of 70+ Meetup enthusiasts (details). The topics we discussed include, but not limited to, the following: […]

Read an article over the weekend on The New York Times titled “New York Isn’t Silicon Valley. That’s Why They Like It.” The gist of the article is to describe the progress that NY tech community has made in recent years. The article also points out that New York still ranks the third behind Silicon Valley and Boston in terms of the number of tech ventures. With that note, we are very excited to kick start this week’s event calendar with NYEBN’s business networking reception, which now has attracted 500+ RSVPs. There are many other Meetup events during the course of the week, such as the New York Gaming Meetup, Revision 3 Meetup, etc. Check out below details. […]
Recently, I revisited Malcolm Gladwell’s book The Tipping Point. It’s a fascinating experience to read the book again and discover new ideas that are tightly related to the work I am doing now with social media. If you ask me to summarize the content of this book via one brief sentence, I would go with the following, “Ideas and products and messages and behaviors spread like viruses do.” So how do you define a tipping point? How would you achieve that crucial threshold with whatever businesses you are running or whatever products/services you are offering? With social media, this can be simple. Here is why. […]
This is a busy week in New York tech community. The week starts with Brandhacker’s event at Red Sky NYC, which helps you understand the key elements in developing a sustainable digital brand. On Wednesday, you will witness an interview with Scott Heiferman, the Meetup founder on the topic of how to develop a viable online community. This event is hosted by NY Entrepreneurs Business Network. And I will be presenting on how to integrate social media to build an online “Tribe.” Content Next Media will be hosting a conference on Friday, discussing The Economics Of Content. Check out our calendar for more event coverage. […]
At about 8:45 AM on Tuesday I was waiting for the bus to take me from Philly to NYC. It was approximately 24 degrees with a wind-chill of um….. 0.
Over the past 7 months I had managed to build a website reaching levels of success that had shocked many of the seasoned experts in the marketing field. Now I was responding to a request for a meeting for a speaking opportunity with the NY Entrepreneurs Business Network. Yet the rare opportunity I might have allowed myself to feel proud or even a little bit smug, was sufficiently suppressed by one tiny little idiotic fact: […]
This post is a recap of a networking event hosted by NY Entrepreneurs Business Network (NYEBN) on Tuesday, Feb. 9. NYEBN is a business networking group based in NYC. Social media has always been a big component of this group in that we are currently giving monthly seminars to help our entrepreneurs understand the pivotal roles that social media plays in terms of building a sustainable business and developing long-lasting customer relationships.
This week, New York is being hit hard by the snowstorm. But we are really pleased with the turnout at Tuesday’s event. […]
I am the assistant organizer of NY Entrepreneurs Business Network (http://nyebn.com). We host efficient networking events for our members, and such events typically take place on a very frequent basis. I’ve watched quite a few networkers over the last few months, some successful, some discouraged.
Networking is fun and should be something you look forward to. If you are going to attend an event like ours with hundreds of people attending, and engage in conversations with as many of these people as possible, you might as well enjoy yourself while doing it. […]
